Don't be discouraged

August 16, 2010
If you are hitting a wall right now with your playing, don't be discouraged. We all experience this from time to time. Are you tired when you sit down to play? Are you trying to do too much?
Slow down a bit. Focus on just one stroke or pattern. Breath. Listen to someone you enjoy for the sheer beauty or joy of it. Don't forget, we are part of something bigger. We may be fortunate enough to add a drop of water to the deep well, or we may be refreshed by drawing from it. But it is beautiful to share in it. Don't be discouraged.

Thank you so much to all of you who turned out in support of the Wounded Warriors benefit dance at the VFW post in Bishop last night.
It was good to play for such a worthy cause. Thanks again to String Theory for the invitation but most of all, thanks to those who lay it all on the line by serving our country in the Armed Forces.

The Inyo Council for the Arts, http://www.inyo.org/ works to provide venues and support to local artists and the folks we share our work with. This past Friday evening in beautiful Bishop City Park, I performed with the Bishop Big Band, and then with String Theory on Sunday afternoon. Both performances were brought to our community through the efforts of the ICA, among others.
So, thank you Lynn Cooper and all the hard working folks at Inyo Council for the Arts!

Have you heard it? Sabar is a wonderful style of drumming from Senegal. One of the drummers to listen to is Dou Dou N'Daie Rose. Here is a link to a good source for his music and other African artists. http://africanrhythmtraders.com/html/afdvds.html
I Love this!

My wife and I recently went down to the Getty Center(
www.getty.edu )and saw some amazing art. Parking is $15.00 but that is all you pay for. A carload of people seeing world class art for $15.00.
On the way home we stopped by Barnes and Noble and picked up some music. I highly recommend this recording by Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate. Guitar and Kora.
Beautiful.
